What is on the Grade 3 FAST Math test?

Grade 3 FAST Mathematics covers four similarly weighted areas: additive reasoning, multiplicative reasoning, fractions, and a combined geometry/measurement/data category. A useful last-minute review checks all four, then spends the remaining time on the one area causing the most errors.

Grade 3 FAST Mathematics blueprint

The percentage ranges are planning guides from Florida's official test blueprint. They describe the share of operational items assigned to each reporting category; they do not predict the exact questions a student will receive on a computer-adaptive assessment.

High-value Grade 3 skills to review

  • Read, write, compose, decompose, compare, round, add, and subtract multi-digit whole numbers.
  • Connect multiplication and division through equal groups, arrays, related facts, area, and perimeter.
  • Understand numerators, denominators, unit fractions, equivalent fractions, and fractions on a number line.
  • Recognize lines, symmetry, and quadrilateral attributes; measure and solve problems involving length, liquid volume, temperature, time, and data.

These skill groups are not a promise that every benchmark will appear for every student. They are a parent-friendly summary of the official grade-level blueprint and B.E.S.T. parent guidance.

Quick Grade 3 diagnostic questions

Have your child show the work and explain the choice of operation or model. These are original FastMathKit practice questions, not released or official FAST items.

  1. Add 3,486 + 2,735. Then use subtraction to check the sum.
  2. There are 8 bags with 7 oranges in each bag. How many oranges are there? Write the related division fact.
  3. Which is greater: 3/4 or 5/8? Show the comparison with equivalent fractions or a drawing.
  4. A rectangle is 9 units long and 4 units wide. Find both its area and perimeter.

Common mistakes worth checking

  • Regrouping a digit without respecting its place value.
  • Multiplying when the situation asks how many equal groups there are, or dividing when it asks for the total.
  • Comparing fractions by looking only at the denominators instead of the size of the parts.
  • Using the area formula when the question asks for perimeter, or omitting square units from an area answer.

When an answer is wrong, ask whether the mistake came from understanding the problem, choosing a method, carrying out the calculation, or labeling the result. That diagnosis is more useful than simply assigning more of the same questions.

A focused 48-hour Grade 3 plan

  1. Day 1, session 1: Complete the four diagnostic questions without hints. Mark the category behind each error.
  2. Day 1, session 2: Review the weakest category with models or drawings, then solve four new problems from that category.
  3. Day 2, session 1: Practice multiplication/division facts and one short mixed set covering all four reporting categories.
  4. Day 2, final check: Explain one fraction model and one word problem aloud. Stop if accuracy drops from fatigue.

Grade 3 test length and tools

The scheduled time is not necessarily a hard stopping point. Florida states that students who are still actively working may receive the time needed to finish, up to the end of the school day. Confirm the exact test date and any approved accommodations with the school.
